Who are the Best Candidates for Eyelid Surgery?

Most patients choosing blepharoplasty are 35 or older, but younger patients with a family history of sagging eyelids or puffy lower lids also opt to have surgery. Good candidates for cosmetic surgery have realistic expectations about the results. During your consultation, your surgeon may discuss the option of a brow lift instead of – or in combination with – upper eyelid surgery.

Blepharoplasty

‍Description

Eyelid surgery is a delicate procedure best performed by surgeons with years of experience. The technique of a skilled surgeon is important whether you are getting upper or lower blepharoplasty or both. Strategically placed incisions are made that result in scars that are virtually invisible. In some cases involving patients with a hollow look beneath their eyes, Dr. Yee uses fat transfer or injectables, such as Restylane^®, in the groove, sometimes called the tear trough. The surgery usually takes about an hour and is typically performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia and mild sedation. If eyelid surgery doesn’t appear necessary, Dr. Yee may recommend an injectable treatment. Using an injectable filler in the periorbital area around the eyes improves your appearance until eyelid surgery is needed.

‍Recovery

Post-operative pain following blepharoplasty is relatively mild and can be controlled with prescribed medication. Bruising and swelling will typically last no more than a week to 10 days and can be minimized by keeping your head elevated as much as possible.
